There isn't a single cause of pelvic floor dysfunction; rather, it can result from a combination of factors. Some common causes include pregnancy, childbirth, repetitive heavy lifting, cancer, muscle weakness or tightness, surgery, high-impact exercise, stress and anxiety. Pelvic floor therapy can provide significant benefits through muscle strength and coordination, muscle relaxation, pain management without medication, manual therapy and stretching techniques, regaining bladder and bowel control, pre and postnatal care, post-surgery rehab, education and lifestyle modification and complementary techniques such as yoga for the pelvic floor.

what to expect

Before making an appointment, a free consultation call with the pelvic floor specialist will be scheduled to collect demographic information, determine the needs of the client, and for pricing information.

Evaluation

During the evaluation, a pelvic floor specialist will assess clients in the home to determine physical, mental, and functional needs. Using a biopsychosocial approach, the therapist and clients will work together to develop meaningful goals and an appropriate plan of care.

Follow up sessions

Options include telehealth or continued in-home visits. Because each client's plan of care is specific to their needs length of care can vary. The therapist will monitor progress closely to determine whether telehealth visits or in-person visits are more appropriate for each individual.
